Also on this level is the statue of Charles Martin Hall that used to guard the entrance to the chemistry lecture hall in Kettering.  Hall is contemplating a lump of bauxite.  While at Oberlin, he figured out how to refine that aluminum ore using electricity, which led to the founding of the Alcoa company.  Hall became a major benefactor of his alma mater.
