On
the left, according to my best guess, is a 1914 portrait of my
future mother (age one, before her hair turned dark) and her brother Ralph
(age seven). The man-in-the-moon studio backdrop includes a
line drawing that greatly resembles the famous airplane Vin Fiz,
which made a 1911 cross-country flight with many stops along the way.
In
the photo on the right below, the girl holding Ralph's hand appears
to be about his age. I can't guess who she is.
At
the bottom of this page, Ralph gives my 4½-year-old future
mother a piggyback ride across a Curtis Ridge field in the summer of 1917.
